It’s a brilliant reminder that great design can honor the past while embracing the future—especially in the world of electric vehicles.
Renault has truly outdone itself with the new R17 EV retromod, designed by the talented French designer Ora ïto. This electric car is a masterclass in blending historical references with cutting-edge technology, creating a stunning tribute to the past while paving the way for the future.
Inspired by the iconic 1974 Renault 17, this design takes us back in time while introducing modern elements that give it a fresh, contemporary feel. The original proportions, lines, and shapes of the Renault 17 remain, but they’ve been enhanced with a wider platform, futuristic rear lights, and subtle aerodynamic touches. The result? A retro-futuristic masterpiece that strikes the perfect balance between nostalgia and innovation.
The interior design is equally captivating, blending sleek, modern materials with vintage aesthetics. Ora ïto has managed to maintain a connection to the car’s roots while incorporating advanced technology, making the space both functional and stylish.
Although this achingly cool EV is not available for purchase, it stands as a bold statement of how heritage and innovation can coexist in automotive design. A truly inspirational project!
